Thyroid
What is a full thyroid panel?
A full thyroid panel typically includes TSH, free T4, free T3, reverse T3 and thyroid antibodies, giving a more complete picture than TSH alone. It is used when symptoms suggest thyroid problems or when TSH is borderline.
What each test measures
TSH is the pituitary's signal to the thyroid. Free T4 is the main hormone produced, free T3 is the more active form, reverse T3 is an inactive form, and antibodies identify autoimmune thyroid disease.
When it makes sense
A full panel is useful when symptoms are present but TSH is normal or borderline, when symptoms persist despite treatment, or when autoimmune disease is suspected.
