Metabolic Health and Insulin Resistance
Metabolic health refers to how well your body manages blood sugar, insulin, lipids and energy use. Vitality Medicine RX offers nurse practitioner-led telehealth care for insulin resistance, metabolic syndrome risk and prediabetes, with labs, nutrition, activity, sleep and medication considered when appropriate. Care is available in states where Dr. Miklos Major II, Sc.D., DNP, NP-BC, FAAMFM holds an active license. Book a discovery call to discuss your metabolic health.
Who this care may be right for
Adults with elevated blood sugar or A1C, a family history of diabetes, weight that is hard to manage, high triglycerides, low HDL, high blood pressure, or a diagnosis of prediabetes or metabolic syndrome may benefit from an evaluation.
Metabolic problems often develop silently, so testing matters even when you feel fine.
Common signs and goals
Common concerns include weight gain, especially around the middle, fatigue after meals, sugar cravings, elevated fasting glucose or A1C, and abnormal lipids.
Goals include improving insulin sensitivity, stabilizing energy, reducing cardiovascular and diabetes risk, and building habits that are realistic to sustain.
How telehealth metabolic care works
You start with a discovery call, then complete an intake covering your history, medications, family history and lifestyle. Dr. Miklos Major II, Sc.D., DNP, NP-BC, FAAMFM reviews labs and orders appropriate testing, then builds a personalized plan in a findings visit.
Nutrition, activity, sleep and stress are core parts of the plan, with medication considered when appropriate.
Labs that may be used
Testing may include fasting glucose, A1C, fasting insulin, a lipid panel, liver enzymes, and markers of inflammation when appropriate. Homeostasis model assessment (HOMA-IR) may be used to estimate insulin resistance.
Labs are completed near you or with home kits where available, depending on your state and the tests ordered.
Treatment options that may be considered
Depending on your evaluation, options may include nutrition and lifestyle planning, structured activity and sleep support, and medications such as metformin or GLP-1 receptor agonists when appropriate. Prescriptions are written only when appropriate after an evaluation.
The plan is individualized and adjusted based on your labs and response.
Safety, risks and ongoing monitoring
Metabolic medications can cause gastrointestinal side effects and other risks, which are reviewed before treatment. Monitoring includes repeat labs and follow-up visits to track glucose, insulin and lipids.
Telehealth is not for emergencies. If you have chest pain, severe shortness of breath or another emergency, call 911.
Cost of metabolic care
Care is provided through our programs and memberships. See the Pricing page for details. Medications and outside lab fees are billed separately.
The practice is fee-for-service and does not bill insurance, Medicare or Medicaid. HSA and FSA cards are accepted, and superbills are available on request.
